Gibraltar Point is a National Nature Reserve just south of Skegness on the Lincolnshire section of the England Coast Path. There are toilets and a cafe in the new Gibraltar Point Visitor Centre. According to the website, the visitor centre is open “10am – 3pm from November to March (4pm weekends), and 10am – 4pm from April to October”. Gibraltar Point is one of only 19 official bird observatories in the UK, and also one of the first to be established back in 1949. These observatories are crucial to monitor the long term health of our bird populations over time.

The main attraction will be the seabirds, with observation possible directly from the visitor centre. You may also be lucky enough to observe some grey seals which frequently rest on the salt marshes. Seabirds you’re likely to see commonly include little terns and skylarks, while in autumn you’l be likely to see flocks of waders. In winter, the scene changes again as you’ll spot overwintering brent geese, shorelark, snow bunting and flocks of redwing and fieldfare.

Dogs are permitted on a lead, but seasonal limitations are in place on the foreshore and these will be clearly marked. The car park costs up to £3 for the entire day, with shorter stays available. There are a number of easy walks from Gibraltar Point, with the free leaflet – Countyside for All Gibraltar Point – providing an outline of these.

Not a place you can just pop into, but ideal for families looking for something to tag onto a coastal walk on the England Coast Path. Skegness Aquarium is compact, with a number of displays, and interactive sections. Little ones can touch the animals at the wet bar, and there are feeding sessions for the sharks with divers in the main tank. You can even dive with the sharks yourself for a fee.

Afterwards, there’s a relaxing cafe with a view (and mobile charging points!) with a play area for the kids. Admission costs to Skegness Aquarium is currently £10.95 per adult or £8.50 per child, with the usual online and family discounts available.

The North Sea Observatory can be found on the outskirts of the Lincolnshire seaside resort of Chapel St Leonards. There’s paid for parking, but the observatory is worth a visit for the views across the North Sea (as you’d probably expect from the name).

The purpose built building serves as the gateway to the Coastal Country Park which includes the entire section of England Coast Path between Chapel and Sutton on Sea and an ideal stop for those walking the Skegeness to Mablethorpe section. Inside there’s a gallery, Seascape Cafe, seating areas and public toilets. You can choose to enjoy your coffee or meal inside or on the terrace, with extensive views whichever you choose. In the gallery, there’s information about the Bathing Beauties and Structures on the Edge, a collection of art installations along the local coastline that are worth visiting while walking the section. The North Sea Observatory is child friendly as well as dog friendly, including the cafe for most of the day (contact them for specifics).

The Cloud Bar at Anderby Creek on the Lincolnshire Coast is one of the more unique attractions that you’ll find. The Cloud Bar isn’t a pub, but rather a platform from which you can enjoy the wide skies that characterise this part of the English Coast. It’s free, and the nearby beach of Anderby Creek is worth a visit, and the village has a shop, cafe and a couple of pubs. It’s free as well, as is the parking nearby (fancy that, Free Parking!)

The Cloud Bar is part of the Structures on the Edge (SOTE) that can be found along the section of coast in the Coastal Country Park between Chapel and Sutton on Sea including Salt Licks, The Sound Tower, Round and Round House and the Reflector. It’s worth making the effort to find them all.
